Lorraine Ugen (born August 22, 1991) is an English athlete. She is best known as a long jumper. She also sometimes competes in the 100-meter sprint. Her best long jump is 7.05 meters. Her fastest 100-meter sprint is 11.32 seconds.
Lorraine represented Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She finished eleventh in the long jump event. In 2018, she was the captain for the Great Britain team. This was at the first-ever Athletics World Cup. She won a gold medal in the women's long jump there.
She also helped the English team win gold. This was in the 4 x 100 meters relay at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. While studying in the United States, she won two national titles. She won an indoor and an outdoor long jump title for Texas Christian University.

Career Highlights
Lorraine Ugen was born in London, England, on August 22, 1991. As a child, she went to Townley Grammar School. Later, she studied at Christ the King Sixth Form College and Brunel University London. She became successful in sports at a young age. In 2009, she won both indoor and outdoor long jump titles. These were at the English junior championships. She also won the English Schools' Athletics Championships.
She first joined Bexley Athletic Club. Later, she trained with Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic Club. In 2016, Lorraine moved to the Thames Valley Harriers Athletic Club. She made her international debut in 2009. She competed at the 2009 European Athletics Junior Championships. In 2010, she also competed at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
In 2011, she was second at the British Athletics Championships. However, she did not record a valid jump at the 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships.
College Athletics in the US
In 2011, Ugen began studying at Texas Christian University. She started competing for their sports team, the TCU Horned Frogs, in 2012. She first appeared at the NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2012. She didn't record a valid jump at either event that year. She achieved a personal best of 6.74 m (22 ft 1.22933071 in) at the UK Championships. She placed second, just missing the Olympic qualifying mark.
In 2013, she placed fifth at the NCAA Indoors. Then, she jumped 6.77 m (22 ft 2.41043307 in) to win the NCAA Outdoor Division I long jump title. This jump was among the top twenty in the world that year. Internationally, she reached the finals at the 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships. She also represented Great Britain at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. However, she did not record a valid jump there.
Ugen started her 2014 season by winning the NCAA Indoor title. Her indoor best was 6.73 m (22 ft 0.83562993 in). She also won the Big Ten Conference championship. She could not defend her outdoor NCAA title, finishing fourth. Her jump was under six and a half meters.
International Success
Lorraine competed for England for the first time in 2014. This was at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She finished in fifth place. In early 2015, she jumped 6.72 m (22 ft 0.44192914 in) to win at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. She then set a new personal best of 6.93 m (22 ft 8.70964567 in) at an indoor meeting in Portland, Oregon. She finished fourth in that event.
She improved her personal best even more in 2017. This was at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade. She jumped 6.97m, setting a new British National Record. She also won a silver medal at this event. She was chosen to compete in the long jump for Team GB. This was at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She jumped 6.05m but did not move past the qualifying round.
