Los Cancajos facts for kids
Los Cancajos is a popular small town for tourists on the island of La Palma. La Palma is one of the Canary Islands. About 700 people live there (based on 2013 numbers). It's found on the east coast of La Palma. It's also located between the main city, Santa Cruz de La Palma, and the island's airport.
A Look Back in Time
Long ago, the area where Los Cancajos is now had many salt pans. These were flat areas used to collect salt from the sea. Later, people stopped using them. This left a big, flat space. In the 1980s, this area was chosen to become a place for tourists to visit.
Fun Things to Do and See
Los Cancajos is famous for its beautiful beaches. These beaches have black sand and are small. They are kept safe by special walls called breakwaters. You can also find rocky areas and small bays. A lovely path with palm trees runs along the shore.
Many people visit Los Cancajos. In 2013, there were over 3,700 beds for visitors in hotels and apartments. Most of these were right in Los Cancajos. This means about one-third of all places to stay on the island are here!
Weather and Climate
Los Cancajos has a warm, dry climate. This is because it is close to the Atlantic Ocean. The weather here is called a hot semi-arid climate. This means it's usually warm and doesn't get a lot of rain.
The weather information below is from the La Palma Airport. This airport is only about 2 kilometers south of Los Cancajos.
