Louis Emilio Saavedra (born March 18, 1933 – died August 7, 2009) was an important person in New Mexico. He was a politician and also worked in education. From December 1989 to November 1993, he served as the 25th mayor of Albuquerque. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Early Life and Learning
Louis Saavedra was born in Socorro, New Mexico. He went to Socorro High School there. After high school, he continued his studies. He earned two degrees from Eastern New Mexico University.
His Work and Leadership
Louis Saavedra had a long career in education. He worked in schools in Albuquerque. In 1964, he helped start a school called the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute. He was the president of this school for many years.
Later, he decided to run for mayor of Albuquerque. In 1989, he won the election. He served as mayor until 1993.
Later Years
Louis Saavedra passed away on August 7, 2009. He died in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
