Louis Hofmann (born 3 June 1997) is a German actor. He became well-known for playing the main character in the 2011 German movie Tom Sawyer. He also won an award for his role in the 2015 Danish film Land of Mine, where he played a young German prisoner of war. Many people know him as Jonas from the German Netflix series Dark, which started in 2017.

Louis Hofmann's Early Life and Acting Journey
Louis Hofmann was born in a place called Bensberg, which is part of Bergisch Gladbach in Germany. He grew up in the city of Cologne. His very first time in front of a camera was for a TV show called Servicezeit. He appeared in a part of the show called Die Ausflieger, where he helped test fun activities for families.
After working on Servicezeit for about two and a half years, Louis decided he wanted to be an actor. He then found an acting agency to help him get roles.
First Steps in Television
In 2009, Louis Hofmann had small roles in TV shows like Danni Lowinski and The Lost Father. He also appeared in a TV movie called Tod in Istanbul. The next year, in 2010, he acted in episodes of Wilsberg and Alarm for Cobra 11.
Becoming a Movie Star
Louis Hofmann's first big movie role was playing Tom Sawyer in the 2011 German film based on the famous book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He even sang a song called "Barfuß Gehen" ("Going Barefoot") for the movie's soundtrack with his co-star, Leon Seidel.
Adventures and Awards
The movie The Adventures of Huck Finn, which was a sequel to Tom Sawyer, came out in 2012. In 2013, Louis had a guest role in the TV series Stolberg. He also appeared in the comedy movie The Almost Perfect Man in 2013.
His role as Wolfgang in the 2015 film Sanctuary earned him the Bavarian Film Prize for Best Newcomer Actor. He also won the German Actors Award for new talent.
International Recognition
Louis Hofmann's first role in an international film was in the Danish-German movie Land of Mine in 2015. He played a young German prisoner of war. For this role, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at Denmark's Bodil Awards in 2016. He also received a special award at the German Film Awards for his work in international films.
In 2016, Louis played Phil in the movie Center of My World. This film was a romantic drama about growing up, based on a popular book. In 2017, he received a European Shooting Stars Award at the Berlinale film festival.
Louis Hofmann's Famous TV Roles
In 2016, Louis Hofmann was chosen to play Jonas Kahnwald in the science fiction thriller series Dark. This show was released on Netflix in December 2017. Jonas is one of the main characters in the series. The second season of Dark came out in June 2019, and the third and final season was released in June 2020.
Recent Projects
In 2022, Louis Hofmann was cast as Werner Pfennig in the Netflix series All the Light We Cannot See. This series is based on a book from 2014 and is set during World War II. It was released in November 2023.
In March 2023, Louis joined the cast of an Apple TV+ show called Monstrous Beauty. He also appeared in another Apple TV+ series, Masters of the Air, which was produced by famous filmmakers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. This series was released in January 2024.
