Louis Marion was born in a place called Bellevue, Saskatchewan. This was in 1906. His father was A. Jules Marion. His mother was Victorine Boucher. Louis grew up and went to school in different places. He studied in Battleford and also in Edmonton, Alberta.

From Telegraphs to Trading

Before becoming a politician, Louis Marion had other jobs. He worked as a telegraph operator in Île-à-la-Crosse. A telegraph operator used a special machine to send messages over long distances. It was like an early form of text messaging! Later, he owned and ran a trading store in the same town. A trading store was a place where people could buy and sell goods. It was very important for communities in those days. In 1931, Louis Marion married Constance G. Wright.

Serving the People of Athabasca

Louis Marion followed in his father's footsteps. His father, A. Jules Marion, was also a politician. He represented the same area, Athabasca, from 1938 to 1941. Louis Marion became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. This is like the provincial parliament. It is where elected people make laws for the province. He represented the Athabasca area from 1944 to 1952. First, he was part of the Liberal Party. Later, he became an Independent member. This means he did not belong to a specific political party anymore. He made decisions based on what he thought was best for his community.
