Louis de Malet de Puyvallier came from a family in Saintonge, France. He decided to join the French Navy at a young age. On October 16, 1756, he became a Garde-Marine. This was a special rank for young officers learning about naval service.

He worked hard and learned a lot. Because of his dedication, he was promoted to Lieutenant on April 4, 1777. This meant he was now a more senior officer.

Service in the American Revolutionary War

In 1778, Louis de Malet de Puyvallier served as the first officer on a ship called the Vengeur. This was a large warship with 64 guns. He served under another officer named Renart d'Amblimont. Later, he served on an even bigger ship, the 80-gun Auguste.

He played a part in important naval battles during the American Revolutionary War.

After a long and distinguished career, Louis de Malet de Puyvallier retired from the Navy. His retirement date was November 24, 1785.

He was also a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. This was a special group formed by officers who had served in the American Revolutionary War. It was created to honor their service and friendship.
