Louisa Emily Dobrée was born in Tours, France, around 1852. Her mother's family was from Ireland. Her father's family was from Guernsey, which is an island. They were originally from France.

Louisa's first story was published when she was 19 years old. After that, she wrote many short stories and articles for magazines. She also wrote books for young readers. Some of her popular books for kids include Loved into Shape, Dreams and Deeds, and Terry. Other titles were One Talent Only and A Knotless Thread. She also wrote Underneath the Surface. A Sark Story and Only Johnny Brown.

In 1887, Dobrée became a member of the Catholic Church. After this, her books often included religious themes. Some of these books were A Manual of Home Nursing and Stories on the Sacraments. She also wrote A Seven-Fold Treasure and Stories on the Beatitudes. Louisa worked for and wrote for about 20 different magazines. She wrote about many subjects.
