Marie Louise Thomsen (born in 1823, died in 1907) was a Danish photographer. She was a pioneer, meaning she was one of the first to do something important in her field. She ran her own photography business in a town called Hellebæk in Zealand, Denmark. She started her business in the early 1860s. Many of her photos from that area are still around today. They show what life was like back then.

Who Was Marie Louise Thomsen?
Early Life and Family
Marie Louise Molbech was born in Sorø, Denmark, on February 26, 1823. Her father was Carl Frederik Molbech, a schoolteacher. Her mother was Catharina Maria Schertner. Marie Louise had two older brothers.
After finishing school in Hillerød, she worked as a private tutor. She taught the children of her cousin in a place called Frederiksyndest, near Fredensborg.
On June 14, 1856, she married Frederich Gottfried Thomsen. In 1862, Marie Louise and her husband moved to a house called Skovhuset in Hellebæk. They lived there for the rest of their lives.
Becoming a Photographer
In August 1864, Marie Louise Thomsen started advertising her photography business. The local newspaper, Helsingør Avis, often published her ads. She announced that she would take portraits at the old forester's house in Hellebæk.
The Royal Danish Library has many portraits taken by Marie Louise Thomsen. On the back of these photos, you can see a stamp. It says: "Photogr. af L. Thomsen, Hellebæk." This means "Photographed by L. Thomsen, Hellebæk." She became known as a very skilled photographer.
Marie Louise Thomsen passed away on June 16, 1907.
