A Look Back: The History of Louisville
Louisville was first planned and settled in 1838. When a community is "laid out," it means people decided where streets and buildings would go. This helped the community grow in an organized way.
For a time, this community had a different name. It was known as Gustin. Gustin even had its own post office. The Gustin post office opened in 1850. It helped people send and receive mail. However, the post office closed its doors in 1865. This was a common change for many small communities back then.
