A Look at Lowpoint's Past
How Lowpoint Got Its Name
The name of this community has changed a little over time. In 1895, a man named Frank D. Banta became the postmaster, who is in charge of the local post office.
Around that time, the name was officially changed from "Low Point" (two words) to "Lowpoint" (one word). This change was made to avoid confusion. There was another community called Long Point about 40 miles away. Changing the spelling helped make sure mail and other things went to the correct place!
