Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Lower Bucca is a small community located in Northern New South Wales, Australia. It is found north of Coffs Harbour on Bucca Road, just off the main Pacific Highway. This area is part of the City of Coffs Harbour, which is its local government area.

History of Lower Bucca

Lower Bucca was once a busy place for gold prospecting in the 1800s. This means many people came here to search for gold. Even today, you can still find signs of old gold mine tunnels hidden in the forests around where the old school used to be.

A well-known person named Susie Kaylock (1892–1959) grew up on a farm nearby. She was an important local official and community helper. She worked for the local council and spent a lot of time helping the people in her community.

Changes in Lower Bucca

The Lower Bucca Primary School closed its doors in 1977. This school was an important building that helped define the area for many years. After it closed, the school building was turned into a community hall, a place where people could gather.

There was also an older, larger community hall in Lower Bucca. It was located a short distance east of the old school. This hall stopped being used around the same time the school closed. It was later taken down. However, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, this old hall was a popular spot for fun community events. People would gather there for Christmas parties and dance nights.
