Lozier, Iowa facts for kids
Lozier is what we call a ghost town in Woodbury County, Iowa. A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but now it's mostly empty. It's like a town that has been left behind by time.
The Story of Lozier
Lozier was once a small community. In 1880, a post office was opened there. A post office was a very important place back then. It was how people sent and received letters and packages. It also helped connect the town to the rest of the world.
However, the post office in Lozier didn't stay open for long. It closed just two years later, in 1882. Around this time, something big was happening nearby: the construction of a railroad. Railroads were like the highways of their time. They made it much easier and faster to travel and move goods.
When the railroad was built, many businesses and people decided to move to Pierson, a town that was closer to the new railroad tracks. This meant that fewer people lived and worked in Lozier. Over time, the town's population became very small, and eventually, it was mostly empty. That's how Lozier became a ghost town.
