Luis Filipe de Sousa Carreira (born December 31, 1976, in Angola – died November 15, 2012) was a talented motorcycle road racer from Portugal. He was known for his speed and skill on the track. Sadly, he passed away after an accident during a qualifying race at the 2012 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix.

A Champion on Two Wheels

Luis Carreira was a very successful motorcycle racer in Portugal and around the world. He started showing his talent early in his career, winning many races and championships.

Early Wins in Portugal

In 1998, Luis won his first big title, the Troféu Super CBR 600, which was a Portuguese championship. This showed everyone he was a rising star. He continued to do well, finishing second in the Troféu Honda Hornet in 2000 and winning the Troféu Honda CBR 600 in 2001. These early victories proved his dedication and skill in motorcycle racing.

Dominating Portuguese Championships

Luis became a dominant force in Portuguese motorcycle racing. He consistently placed in the top three in the Portuguese Stocksport 1000 championship. He finished third in 2003 and 2004, and then second in 2007. His hard work paid off when he finally won the Portuguese Stocksport 1000 championship three times in a row, from 2008 to 2010. He also won the Troféu Resistência Vodafone in 2007 and 2009, which is a Portuguese endurance trophy.

International Racing Adventures

Beyond Portugal, Luis also competed in major international races. He raced in the famous Macau Grand Prix several times, showing great improvement each year. He finished 21st in 2004, then 14th in 2006, 9th in 2007, and an impressive 4th place in 2008. He also competed in the Albacete European Championship, finishing 12th in 2009.

Taking on the Toughest Races

Luis Carreira was brave enough to compete in some of the most challenging road races in the world. In 2009, he made his debut at the Isle of Man TT, a legendary and very demanding race held on public roads. He was named the "Best Rookie" that year in the Senior Isle of Man TT, finishing 18th. He returned to the Isle of Man TT in 2010 and 2011, improving his results. In 2011, he also competed in the NW 200 race, another famous road race, where he was the "Best Rookie" by finishing 11th.
