Disused Lucasville Station
The platform

The Lucasville railway station was an old train station in Australia. It was located on a special part of the railway line called the Lapstone Zig Zag. This station opened in 1877 but closed down in 1892. Today, you can still visit the remains of the station as part of a walking track.

What Was Lucasville Station?

Lucasville Station was a small railway stop. It was built to serve a specific person and his home. The station was part of the main railway line that went through the Blue Mountains. This line was very important for travel and trade in the past.

A Special Station for a Special Person

The station was named after John Lucas. He was an important person in Australian politics. Mr. Lucas bought land right next to the Lapstone Zig Zag railway. He built a large country house there, which he called Lucasville. This house was a place for him and his family to relax.

To make travel easier for himself and his guests, John Lucas wanted a train station nearby. Because he was a politician, he had influence. He used his influence to have a railway station built very close to his home.

The Station's Design and Location

Lucasville Station opened in 1877. It had a strong concrete platform. From this platform, there were steps carved into the rock. These steps led directly into the grounds of Lucasville, Mr. Lucas's house. This made it very convenient for him to travel by train.

Why Did It Close?

Even though it was built for convenience, Lucasville Station did not stay open for long. It closed just 15 years later, in 1892. This was because the main railway line was changed. A new, straighter tunnel was built, and the trains no longer used the old Lapstone Zig Zag section. So, Lucasville Station was no longer needed.

What Can You See Today?

The house, Lucasville, is no longer there. But if you visit the area, you can still find clues. You might see parts of the old gardens and paths that belonged to Mr. Lucas's home. These are just west of the ZigZag walking track.

The station platform itself is still there. It is a solid reminder of the past. Today, the old station is part of the Historic Lapstone Zig Zag walking track. This means you can walk along the old railway line and see the platform where trains once stopped. It's a great way to imagine what travel was like long ago.
