Luce Douady (born November 17, 2003 – died June 14, 2020) was a very talented French climber. She started climbing at a young age and quickly became known for her skills. Luce competed in major climbing events around the world. In 2019, she became a youth world champion. She also won a bronze medal at the European Championships. Sadly, Luce passed away in 2020 at the age of 16.

Early Life and Climbing Journey
Luce Douady was born on November 17, 2003. Her hometown was Le Touvet, located in the Isère region of France. She began climbing when she was just 7 years old. Luce joined a local climbing club called TCGM.
When she was 9, she moved to the Chambéry club. Here, she trained at a very high level. In 2017, she joined the Voiron hope centre. This helped her develop her climbing even more. By October 2019, she was part of the French national climbing team.
Amazing Achievements in Climbing
In 2019, Luce Douady was only 15 years old. Even though she was still a junior climber, she entered her first senior competition. This was the European Cup in Innsbruck. To everyone's surprise, she won a gold medal!
Later that year, she competed in her first Senior World Cup. This event was in Vail, Colorado. She reached the final round and finished in an impressive fifth place.
Becoming a World Champion
Luce continued her amazing year in Arco, Italy. She became the Junior World Champion in the "block event." This type of climbing involves solving short, difficult climbing problems. She also won a bronze medal in the "difficulty event." This event tests how far a climber can go up a long, hard route.
In the same year, she won another bronze medal. This was at the Senior European Championships. She earned it in the difficulty event. Luce was seen as a huge talent for the future of climbing. People even called her part of the "Paris 2024 generation." This meant she was expected to compete in the Olympics.
Climbing Outdoors
Luce also enjoyed climbing on natural rock formations. In 2020, she reached a very high level in outdoor climbing. She achieved an 8b+ rating. This shows how strong and skilled she was. The best female climbers in the world can reach levels like 9b.
Tragic Accident
On June 14, 2020, Luce Douady was with a climbing group. They were at a climbing site in Saint-Pancrasse, France. This area is in the Grésivaudan valley. While on a path that connected two climbing areas, she slipped. The path was exposed and had a handrail. Sadly, Luce fell about 150 meters and died. She was only 16 years old.
