Lucerne-Stadt (district) facts for kids
The Lucerne-Land District is a special area, or district, in the Swiss canton of Lucerne. Think of a canton like a state, and a district like a county within that state. This district is unique because it includes only one place: the city of Lucerne itself.
As of December 31, 2016, about 81,592 people lived in the Lucerne-Land District. It's a key part of the Lucerne canton, focusing on the main city.
How Lucerne-Land District Began
The Lucerne-Land District is quite new! It was officially created on January 1, 2013.
Before this district was formed, a smaller town called Littau joined with the city of Lucerne. This merger happened on January 1, 2010. So, the city of Lucerne grew bigger, and later, it became its own district. This change helped organize the region better.
