Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, often called AAA (pronounced "Triple A"), is a famous Mexican professional wrestling company. It is based in Mexico City, Mexico. The company's full original name was Asistencia, Asesoría y Administración de Espectáculos, which means "Attendance, Advisory, and Administration of Spectacles".

AAA was started in 1992 by Antonio Peña. He wanted to create his own wrestling company to have more freedom with his ideas. AAA is known for its exciting characters and unique match styles. Sometimes, they even use a six-sided wrestling ring instead of the usual four-sided one! AAA has worked with other wrestling companies in Mexico and the United States, like Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

AAA holds many big wrestling events, especially in Mexico. They have also put on shows in the United States and Japan. Their shows have been broadcast on TV channels like Gala TV and TUDN.

In April 2025, the American wrestling company WWE announced that it bought AAA. WWE now owns 51% of AAA, working with a Mexican company called Fillip.

History of AAA Wrestling

How AAA Started and Its Early Days

In 1992, a wrestling booker named Antonio Peña left another big wrestling company, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). He wanted to start his own group. Many young and talented wrestlers from CMLL, like Konnan, joined him. AAA also looked for new talent from other places, finding stars like Rey Mysterio, Jr. and Psicosis from Tijuana.

AAA quickly became known for signing top wrestlers. Some of these included El Hijo del Santo, Octagón, Blue Panther, and Perro Aguayo. Because AAA became so popular, another wrestling company, Universal Wrestling Association, eventually closed down.

In 1994, AAA worked with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) to put on a special event called When Worlds Collide. This show was very popular and helped make lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) famous in the United States. After this event, some wrestlers left AAA for different reasons, including Eddie Guerrero and Rey Misterio, Jr., who went to WCW.

In 1997, AAA started working with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which is now WWE. Several AAA wrestlers appeared in the 1997 Royal Rumble event. Around the mid-1990s, the company's name was shortened to just AAA.

AAA from 2006 to 2014

On October 6, 2006, AAA's founder, Antonio Peña, sadly passed away from a heart attack. After his death, his sister, Marisela Peña, took over managing the company's money. His brother-in-law, Joaquín Roldán, and his son, Dorian Roldán Peña, became the main managers of the wrestling shows.

In 2010, AAA released its own video game called Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring.

AAA also had a partnership with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) starting in 2004. Through this partnership, AAA sent wrestlers like Juventud Guerrera and Héctor Garza to TNA to compete as "Team Mexico." Team Mexico did very well, winning the America's X-Cup Tournament.

The partnership between TNA and AAA ended in late 2004 but started again in 2006 for a special event. This second partnership ended in 2007. However, TNA and AAA began working together again in February 2010.

AAA from 2014 to 2020

In 2014, AAA announced it would create a new wrestling show for American TV called Lucha Underground. This show started in October 2014 and ran for four seasons, getting very good reviews.

In March 2015, the company officially changed its name to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. However, most people still call it AAA or "Triple A."

On April 8, 2017, AAA's General Manager, Joaquín Roldán, passed away.

In 2019, AAA changed its main TV channel in Mexico. It moved from Televisa, where it had been for 27 years, to Multimedios and then to TV Azteca.

AAA also held its first events in the United States in 2019. They planned a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. However, due to lower ticket sales, the event was moved to a smaller venue, the Hulu Theater. They also held a show in Los Angeles at The Forum.

COVID-19 Pandemic and Aftermath

In March 2020, AAA had to cancel and postpone its wrestling shows because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep wrestling going, they created a tournament called Lucha Fighters in April.

Later in 2020, AAA came up with a new idea called "AutoLuchas." These were wrestling events held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez where fans could watch the matches from inside their cars. AAA started these shows in early October 2020.

In February 2021, AAA partnered with Mexico's tourism office to promote tourist spots. This tour included big shows like Rey de Reyes.

On August 14, 2021, Triplemanía XXIX was held with a limited number of fans in the audience. This was the first time fans could attend an AAA event since the pandemic began.

In June 2025, WWE's Los Garza won the AAA World Tag Team Championship. This was the first time a WWE-contracted wrestler won an AAA championship.
