Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, often called AAA (pronounced "triple A"), is a famous Mexican wrestling company. It's based in Mexico City, Mexico. The company was started in 1992 by Antonio Peña. He wanted to create his own wrestling promotion to have more creative freedom.

AAA is known for its exciting and sometimes wild characters and matches. They often use a unique hexagonal (six-sided) wrestling ring instead of the usual square one. AAA has worked with other wrestling companies in Mexico and the United States, like Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), Major League Wrestling (MLW), and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

AAA mainly holds big events called pay-per-views (PPVs) in Mexico. They have also held shows in the United States and Japan. You can watch their shows regularly on Gala TV in Mexico and Univision TDN in Mexico and parts of the U.S.

History of AAA

How AAA Started and Grew

In 1992, Antonio Peña, who used to book matches for another wrestling company called Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), decided to start his own group. Many young and talented wrestlers from CMLL joined him. AAA also looked for new talent from other places, like Rey Mysterio, Jr. and Psicosis from Tijuana.

AAA quickly became known for signing top wrestlers. Some of these included El Hijo del Santo, Octagón, Blue Panther, and Perro Aguayo. The company's growing popularity even caused a rival wrestling group to close down.

In 1994, AAA worked with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) to put on a special event called When Worlds Collide. This show was very popular and helped make lucha libre famous in the United States. After this, some wrestlers left AAA, including Eddie Guerrero and El Hijo del Santo. Other stars like Rey Misterio, Jr. and La Parka also moved to WCW in 1996.

In 1997, AAA started working with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Several AAA wrestlers appeared in the 1997 Royal Rumble event. Around the mid-1990s, the company's name was shortened to just AAA.

Changes and Growth (2006–2014)

On October 6, 2006, AAA's founder, Antonio Peña, sadly passed away. After his death, his sister, Marisela Peña, took over managing the company's money. His brother-in-law, Joaquín Roldán, and his son, Dorian Roldán Peña, became the managers for the wrestling operations.

In 2008, AAA had another big show in the U.S. called Legendary Battles of Triplemania. In 2009, AAA announced they were making a video game. It was later called Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring and came out in 2010.

AAA also worked closely with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) starting in 2004. AAA sent wrestlers like Juventud Guerrera and Héctor Garza to TNA to compete as Team Mexico. Team Mexico did very well, winning the America's X-Cup Tournament. The partnership between TNA and AAA ended in late 2004, but they teamed up again for another event in 2006. This second partnership ended in 2007. They started working together again in February 2010.

New Shows and Partnerships (2014–2020)

In 2014, AAA announced a new show for American TV called Lucha Underground. This show premiered on October 29, 2014, and was very popular. It ran for four seasons.

In March 2015, the company officially changed its name to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. However, most people still call it AAA or "Triple A."

On April 8, 2017, AAA General Manager Joaquín Roldán passed away.

In 2019, AAA announced its first-ever events in the United States. They planned a show called Invading NY at Madison Square Garden in New York City. They also planned Invading Los Angeles at The Forum in California. The New York event was later moved to a smaller venue.

Also in 2019, AAA changed where their shows were broadcast in Mexico. They moved from Televisa to Multimedios and then made a deal with TV Azteca.

Recent Times (2020–present)

In March 2020, AAA had to cancel and postpone events because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, they created a tournament called Lucha Fighters with both male and female wrestlers.

To keep shows going during the pandemic, AAA started a project called "AutoLuchas" in July 2020. Fans could watch the wrestling from their cars at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. AAA announced they would return to regular shows in early October.

In February 2021, AAA partnered with Mexico's tourism office (SECTUR). They called this tour "Lucha por la Identidad Nacional" to promote tourist spots in Mexico.

On August 14, 2021, Triplemanía XXIX was held. It was the first big event since the pandemic started to have a limited number of fans in the audience. Other events, like Héroes Inmortales XIV, also had limited fans.
