Lucinda Kate Riley (born Edmonds; 16 February 1965 – 11 June 2021) was a popular author from Northern Ireland. She was famous for writing historical fiction novels. Before becoming a writer, she worked as an actress and a ballet dancer.

About Lucinda Riley's Life

Lucinda Edmonds was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. She spent her early childhood in a small village near Belfast called Drumbeg. Later, her family moved to England.

Early Career and Education

When Lucinda was 14, she went to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. There, she studied theatre and ballet. At 16, she got her first big TV role in a BBC show called The Story of the Treasure Seekers. Soon after, she appeared in another show, Auf Wiedersehen Pet. She continued acting for about seven years.

Becoming a Writer

Lucinda's acting career paused when she became ill with mononucleosis. During her recovery, she started writing. Her first novel, Lovers and Players, was published in 1992.

She was married twice and had four children. After taking a break from writing, she returned in 2010. All her later books were published using her married name, Riley.

The Seven Sisters Series

In 2014, Lucinda Riley released The Seven Sisters. This was the first book in a very popular series with the same name. This series made her a bestselling author, especially in Europe.

Global Success

Her Seven Sisters novels have been translated into many different languages. Together, they have sold over 30 million copies around the world. In 2016, a producer bought the rights to turn the series into a television show.

Finishing the Series

Lucinda Riley continued to write even when she was ill. She wrote five novels during the four years she was sick. Sadly, she passed away on 11 June 2021, before she could finish the last book in her Seven Sisters series. Her son, Harry Whittaker, completed the final book, Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt. This book was released after her death in May 2023.
