Lucy Elizabeth Bather was born in London, England, on March 31, 1830. She was the fourth daughter of Charles Blomfield, who was a very important church leader known as the Bishop of London.

Early Life and Education

Lucy grew up in a family where learning was important. Her father, the Bishop, helped teach her and her brothers and sisters. She even learned some classical languages, which are ancient languages like Latin or Greek.

On August 29, 1861, Lucy married Arthur Henry Bather. He was from a place called Meole Brace in Shropshire. Lucy Bather passed away on September 5, 1864, after a short illness.

Becoming "Aunt Lucy"

Lucy Elizabeth Bather had a special talent for making learning fun and interesting for young people. She wrote many stories for children. She also wrote a book called Footprints on the Sands of Time. This book contained biographies, or life stories, for young people. She dedicated it to her nieces and nephews. In the introduction to this book, she signed it "Aunt Lucy." This is how she became best known by that friendly name.
