Ludwig Anton Salomon Fulda (born July 7, 1862 – died March 7, 1939) was a German writer. He wrote many plays and poems. He was known for caring about important social issues of his time.

Ludwig Fulda was born in the city of Frankfurt, Germany. He became a respected member of the Prussian Academy of Arts. This was a very important group for artists and thinkers in Prussia.

His Role in PEN

From 1925 to 1932, Ludwig Fulda was the first president of the PEN Club in Germany. The PEN Club is an international group of writers. It works to promote friendship and understanding among writers. It also defends freedom of expression.

Visiting the United States

In 1906, Ludwig Fulda traveled to the United States. He was invited by the Germanistic Society. This trip helped to share German culture and ideas in America.

Challenges in His Later Life

Later in his life, in 1933, Ludwig Fulda faced difficulties. The government in Germany at that time removed him from his work. This happened because of his Jewish background.

Also, Fulda's 1901 play, Die Zwillingsschwester (The Twin Sister), was used for a movie. It became the American film Two-Faced Woman (1941). This movie starred the famous actress Greta Garbo.

Inspired by Classic Tales

Ludwig Fulda also wrote a play inspired by the classic story of Aladdin. It was called Aladdin und die Wunderlampe (Aladdin and the Magic Lamp). Besides his own writing, he also translated many works from other languages.
