Lluís Jordà (born in Roda de Ter on June 16, 1869 – died in Barcelona on September 20, 1951) was a talented Spanish musician. He was a pianist, a composer who wrote music, and a musical impresario, which means he helped organize and promote musical events. Lluís Jordà came from Catalonia, a region in Spain.
Early Life and Education
Lluís Jordà was born with the full name Lluís Gonzaga Jordà i Rossell. His hometown was Roda de Ter, located in the province of Barcelona.
He began his musical journey by studying with Melitón Beaucells in Roda de Ter. Later, he continued his lessons with Jaime Pujadas. Pujadas was the choirmaster at Vic Cathedral, a very important church.
His family later moved to Barcelona. There, Lluís joined the conservatory, which is a special school for music. He achieved top grades under his teachers Manuel Obiols and Josep Rodoreda. He also studied the organ at the Basilica de la Merced in Barcelona.
Career Highlights
In 1889, Lluís Jordà became a professor and director at the Vic School of Music. He also directed the city's band, leading their performances.
In 1898, he moved to Mexico. There, he became very famous for his zarzuelas. Zarzuelas are a type of Spanish musical play, similar to an operetta. His most well-known zarzuela was Chin Chun Chan, which was performed over 2,000 times!
Lluís Jordà returned to Barcelona in 1915. He then started his own music business called Casa Beethoven. From 1922 to 1934, he directed a musical group known as the "Trio Beethoven."
He wrote many different types of music. This included zarzuelas, religious music for churches, and pieces for the piano.
