Political Career
Becoming a Senator

Changing Parties
In October 2013, he left the PSOE. He disagreed with some of the party's leaders. After leaving, he joined the Citizens party. In 2014, he ran in the European elections but was not elected.
Joining the Congress of Deputies
In 2015, Luis Salvador ran to become the mayor of Granada. His party's members in the city hall chose not to vote for any candidate for mayor, even though he was offered a chance to join the government. Later that year, he returned to national politics. He was elected to the Congress of Deputies, which is like the main parliament in Spain.
Mayor of Granada
In May 2019, while campaigning to be mayor of Granada, Luis Salvador gained attention for a post on his website. It used an unusual analysis to suggest that his physical features showed positive qualities. Even though his party won only four out of 27 seats in the city hall, he became mayor in June. He received support from the People's Party (which had 7 seats) and Vox (which had 3 seats). Granada was the largest city where a Citizens party member became mayor at that time.
In December 2020, Luis Salvador spoke out against a government decision. He criticized the Ministry of the Interior for moving some people from the Canary Islands to Granada. Other political groups in Granada disagreed with his comments.
Resignation and New Role
On July 2, 2021, Luis Salvador resigned as mayor. This happened after the People's Party stopped supporting him. He then supported the previous mayor, Francisco Cuenca, who was from the PSOE. Luis Salvador stayed in Cuenca's government. He became the head of a project called Estrategía 2031. This project aims to help Granada become the European Capital of Culture in 2031.
