History of Lumberton
The story of Lumberton began a long time ago.
- The very first people settled here in 1820.
- However, the official layout of the town, called a "plat," wasn't created until 1853. This plat showed where streets and lots would be.
- A post office, which helps send and receive mail, opened in Lumberton in 1840. It served the community for many years before closing in 1907.
- The community got its name from another place called Lumberton Township, New Jersey.
