Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Lydia Kakabadse (born in 1955) is a British composer who writes many kinds of music. She creates pieces for voices (vocal music), for choirs (choral music), and for small groups of instruments (chamber music). Her music often has a clear tune and uses special scales that sound a bit like old church music or music from other parts of the world, like the Middle East. She blends these sounds with traditional Western music styles.

Lydia Kakabadse has written many important pieces. For example, her choral work called Odyssey was asked for by the Hellenic Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London. In 2015, her old school, Forest Preparatory School, asked her to write a choral piece named I Remember. This piece was performed at a special music event for different schools.

Some of her shorter works were played at the famous Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester Cathedral in 2019. Later that same year, her chamber piece Concertato was performed at the Chatsworth Arts Festival. Her chamber work Russian Tableaux was even played on BBC Radio 3 in 2015 and 2017 to celebrate International Women's Day.
