Lyle Yost was born in Hesston, Kansas. He became well-known for inventing a very important part for farm machines. This invention changed how farmers worked.
The Unloading Auger
In 1947, Lyle Yost designed and invented the unloading auger. An auger is like a giant screw that can move things. This special auger was used to unload grain from farm machines called combines. Combines are big machines that harvest crops like wheat or corn.
Before Yost's invention, unloading grain from combines was a slow and hard job. His auger made it much faster and easier. This invention was a huge step forward for farming.
Building Hesston Manufacturing
Lyle Yost's invention was so successful that it led to the creation of a company. This company was called Hesston Manufacturing. It was located in Yost's hometown of Hesston, Kansas. The company grew quickly because of the demand for the unloading auger and other farm equipment.

Changes for the Company
Over the years, Hesston Manufacturing went through some changes in ownership.

- Later, in 1991, a new company named AGCO Corporation bought the rights to Hesston Manufacturing. AGCO is still a big name in farm equipment today.
