Lyman F. Hoffman, born on February 13, 1950, is a Yup'ik politician from Alaska. He has been a member of the Alaska Senate since 1995. He represents a large area of Alaska, including the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, the Alaska Peninsula, and the Aleutian Islands.
Before his current time in the Senate, he also served there from 1991 to 1993. He was also a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1987 to 1991 and again from 1993 to 1995. In January 2019, Mr. Hoffman became the person who had served the longest in the history of the Alaska Legislature. He passed the record previously held by Jay Kerttula.

Working with Different Political Parties
Lyman Hoffman is a registered Democrat. However, for many years, he worked closely with Republican members in the Senate. This is called "caucusing" with another party.
Working with Republicans
From 2015 to 2023, Mr. Hoffman was the only registered Democrat who chose to work with the Republicans in the Senate. He even supported a Republican candidate, Dan Sullivan, in the 2014 U.S. Senate election. This was instead of supporting the Democratic Senator Mark Begich.
Joining Both Parties Together
Since 2023, and also from 2007 to 2013, Mr. Hoffman has been part of a special group. This group is called a "bipartisan majority coalition." "Bipartisan" means it includes members from both the Democratic and Republican parties. This shows his ability to work with people from different political backgrounds.
