The name "Lyndon" came from a town called Lyndon, Massachusetts. An early settler who moved to this area was originally from Lyndon, Massachusetts, and the community was named in honor of their home.
Lyndon Station: A Former Name
For a while, Lyndon was also known as "Lyndon Station." This name was used because of a post office that opened there in 1857. This post office was called Lyndon Station. The community was also located along the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad, which was an important train line back then.
The Name Change
In 1882, the name of the post office, and the community, officially changed from Lyndon Station to just Lyndon. That's the name it has kept ever since!
