Mónica Messa López was a fantastic Spanish basketball player. She was born on October 7, 1966. Mónica was the captain of the Spanish national team at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She also won a gold medal at the 1993 European Championship.

Mónica's Club Career
Mónica grew up in Madrid, Spain. She started playing basketball at her school, Colegio Alameda de Osuna. Later, she joined Real Canoe NC. She played there from her junior years until she joined the top league, the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto.
Winning Championships
With Real Canoe, Mónica helped her team win three championships in a row! They were champions of the Liga Femenina in 1984, 1985, and 1986. She was a very promising young player.
Moving to a New Team
Because she was so good, Mónica moved to the Caja Toledo - BEX Banco Exterior team. This team was created to help young Spanish players get ready for the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Playing for Her Country
Mónica started playing for the Spain women's national basketball team when she was just 19 years old. She played for the national team for 10 years, from 1985 to 1995. She played in 185 games for Spain.
Olympic and European Games
Mónica was a key player for Spain. She played in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She also took part in four European Championships.
