Münster is a special kind of government region in Germany. It is one of five such regions in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. You can find it in the northern part of the state.
This region, called a Regierungsbezirk, was first created in 1815. It was one of the first 25 regions made to help govern Prussia. Prussia was a very important kingdom in Germany a long time ago.
The borders of the Münster region were last changed in 1975. This change helped to make the region more organized. The number of smaller districts was changed from ten to five. Also, the number of large cities that govern themselves was changed from six to three.
