Murdock M. McLeod (around 1847 – December 1895) was an important figure in Mississippi's history. He was a lawyer who also worked as a city clerk and a state legislator. As a member of the Republican Party, he served as the 21st Secretary of State of Mississippi. This important role lasted from October to November in 1873. McLeod was one of several African American leaders who held the Secretary of State position in Mississippi during the Reconstruction era. Serving as Secretary of State
On October 20, 1873, Murdock McLeod was chosen for a very important job. He was appointed as the Secretary of State of Mississippi. This appointment was made by the governor of Mississippi at the time, Ridgley C. Powers. The Secretary of State is a high-ranking official who handles many state records and elections. McLeod served in this role for a short time. He resigned from the position on November 13, 1873.
