Mabel, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mabel is a small place in Daviess County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own official local government, unlike a city or town.

Mabel is located near a main road called U.S. Route 69. It's about a quarter of a mile east of the line between Daviess County and DeKalb County. It's also about two miles north of the line between Daviess County and Caldwell County. The town of Cameron is six miles to the south-southwest along Route 69.

A Glimpse into Mabel's Past

Mabel once had its own post office. This post office opened in 1883. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1936. It's not exactly clear how Mabel got its name.
