Macdona is a small community in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. It's also a census-designated place, which is a special area the government uses to count people for the census.

Macdona is located near the Union Pacific train tracks and Loop 1604. It's in the southwest part of Bexar County and is considered part of the larger San Antonio area. In 2010, about 559 people lived there.

History

Macdona got its name from George Macdona, an Englishman who owned the land where the community was built. The first time land was officially sold here was on July 7, 1886.

The Macdona post office opened in the same year, 1886. Later, in 1909, a train line called the Artesian Belt opened. This line stretched for 42 miles between Macdona and Christine. By the year 2000, the population of Macdona was recorded as 297 people. The community uses the phone area codes 210 and 726.

Weather and Climate

Macdona experiences a type of weather known as a humid subtropical climate. This means that the summers are usually hot and humid, while the winters are generally mild or cool. This climate type is often marked as "Cfa" on climate maps.

Important Event: Train Accident

On June 28, 2004, a serious train accident happened in Macdona. Two trains, one from BNSF and one from Union Pacific Railroad, crashed. This crash caused a large amount of liquid chlorine to be released. The chlorine quickly turned into a gas cloud that spread over a wide area.

This gas was very dangerous. Many people were injured, and sadly, some lives were lost because of the chlorine gas. This event was a major incident for the community.
