The Main Story: Madeline's American Adventure
The most important story in the book is about Madeline. Her great-grandfather passes away. He leaves her a very large gift of money. This means Madeline gets a big inheritance.
Madeline and her school friends get to go on an amazing trip. Their teacher, Miss Clavel, goes with them. They travel all the way to America for a wonderful vacation.
However, there's a surprise at the end. Madeline finds out she cannot get her inheritance right away. She has to wait until she is 21 years old. This makes Madeline a little sad.
Even though they have to return to Paris, Madeline makes a promise. She vows that she will definitely go back to America someday.
