Madhi-Madhi is an important Indigenous Australian language. It is also known as Muthimuthi or Madi Madi. The Muthi Muthi Aboriginal people speak this language. They live in the area of New South Wales, Australia.
About the Madhi-Madhi Language
The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) helps to record and preserve Indigenous languages. They have a special code for Madhi-Madhi, which is D8. They also call it Mutti Mutti or Muthi Muthi.
This language has many different names. Some of these names include Madhi Madhi, Madi Madi, and Bakiin. Other names are Mataua, Matimati, and Matthee matthee. You might also hear it called Moorta Moorta, Mudhi Mudhi, Muthimuthi, Muti muti, Muttee Muttee, Madimadi, or Mutte Mutte.
Recording the Language
A linguist named Luise Hercus studied the Madhi-Madhi language. In 1989, she published a lot of information about it. This information came from recordings she made with Jack Long. He was known as "the last Madimadi man." His knowledge helped to save important parts of the language.
