How Many People Live in Madurai?
In 2011, a big count of people called a census showed that about 3,038,252 people lived in Madurai district. That's over 3 million people! This number was bigger than in 2001, when there were about 2,578,201 people. This means the number of people living here grew by almost 18% in ten years.
The census also looked at the number of girls and boys. For every 1,000 boys, there were 990 girls in Madurai district in 2011. This was a good improvement from 2001, and it's higher than the average for all of India.
