Magdalena Álvarez Arza is a Spanish politician. From 2004 to 2009, she was the Minister of Public Works (Fomento) in Spain. Early Life and Education
Magdalena Álvarez studied a lot. She earned a special degree called a doctorate. This was in Economic and Business Science. She got it from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
She also taught economics for many years. From 1977 to 1990, she taught at the Spanish National Open University. She also taught at other schools in Málaga and for tax studies.
In 1979, she started working for the Spanish Tax Inspectorate. This is like the government's tax department. She had different jobs there. She was a chief inspector in Málaga. She also helped manage financial inspections.
Her Political Career
Magdalena Álvarez became a member of parliament in the Andalusian regional parliament. She represented the province of Málaga. In August 1994, she became the Minister of Economy and Revenue for Andalucía. She was part of the government led by Manuel Chaves.
During her time as a regional minister, she worked on important financial matters. She focused on paying off Andalucía's public debt. She also worked on how the region managed its own money.
In 2004, she ran in the Spanish General Election. She was the top candidate for the Socialist Party in Málaga. She supported José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who became the Prime Minister of Spain.
