San Fernando is a city in the province of Cádiz, Spain. It is sometimes called "La Isla" (The Island). More than 97,500 people live here. People from San Fernando are known as "Cañaíllas" or "Isleños".

Discover the History of San Fernando
San Fernando played a very important role in history. In 1810, during the Peninsular War, French forces led by Napoleon took over much of Spain. However, San Fernando and Cádiz were two places that never gave up.
The Birth of a Constitution
Leaders from all over Spain met in San Fernando. They gathered at the Teatro Cómico. Here, they started writing the Spanish Constitution of 1812. This was Spain's first liberal constitution. It was officially approved in the nearby city of Cádiz in 1812.
