Sara Pereyra Baras, born on April 25, 1971, is a famous Spanish flamenco dancer. She is also a choreographer, meaning she creates dance routines. Sara was born in San Fernando, a town in the Cádiz province of Spain. She even started her own dance company!

The Life of Sara Baras
Early Life and Dance Training
Sara was born in San Fernando, Spain, in 1971. She started learning to dance at her mother's school, run by Concha Baras. Soon, she joined a dance group called Los Niños de la Tertulia Flamenca. With this group, she traveled to many flamenco festivals in Barcelona.
Joining Dance Companies
When Sara was 24, she joined Manuel Morao’s dance company. She performed at the Teatro Flamenco Alhambra 89 festival in Granada. In the same year, she won first prize in a Spanish TV contest called "Gente Joven." In 1991, she performed with Manuel Morao’s company for two months in Paris.
In 1992, Sara performed at the "Bienal de Danza" in Lyon and the Palais des Congrès in Paris. She also danced with her partner, Javier Barón. During the Seville Expo 92, a big world fair, she performed in Manuel Morao’s show.
Awards and Performances
In 1993, Sara won the "Madroño Flamenco" award in Montellano, Seville. This award recognized her as the most outstanding artist of the year. She also performed at the Festival de Sevilla with her show Flamenco Íntimo. She danced in Genoa, Italy, with the show Mira qué flamenco.
In 1994, Sara danced for the famous flamenco singer Enrique Morente. This was at the Semana Flamenca de la Caja de Ávila festival. She also took part in the XXIII Festival de la Bulería de Jerez. She toured Europe for two months with Paco Peña's company. She also danced at the "Bienal de Sevilla" in a special tribute to the flamenco dancer Antonio Ruiz Soler.
Collaborations and Her Own Company
In May 1996, Sara was part of a show called Mujeres. This show was organized by Merche Esmeralda's company. It premiered in Vitoria and then toured Madrid and Barcelona. Sara was also a guest dancer in the show Gitano by Antonio Canales. This show was presented at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla and toured many important theaters.
Sara also performed as a solo dancer in tributes to Camarón de la Isla, a famous flamenco singer. In 1997, she started her very own dance company. Her company performed at the closing of the XXXVII Festival Nacional del Cante de las Minas. In 1999, she was a guest artist for "El Güito's" Flamenco Company in Paris.
On April 2, 1998, Sara and her company debuted their show Sensaciones in Murcia. The company included Sara, seven other dancers, and seven musicians. The show explored different styles, or "palos," of flamenco. Later that month, she appeared on a TV show called La Huella de España. In June, her company performed at the Festival de Evian. In September 1998, her Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras premiered a show called Cadiz - La isla in Seville. In October 1998, Sara presented a TV show called Algo más que flamenco on Spanish television.
In 1999, she premiered her show Sueños. While performing another show, Juana la loca, she also rehearsed for her next show, Mariana Pineda. She danced at concerts by Chavela Vargas in several cities, including Granada, Cadiz, and Barcelona. She also performed in Bogotá and Buenos Aires.
Film and Fashion Work
Sara appeared in the film Iberia, directed by Carlos Saura. She created her own dance for the film and worked with José Serrano on another. The film was released in November 2005.
In July 1999, a scene for the movie Mission: Impossible 2 was filmed with Sara at the Casa de Pilatos in Seville. She has also worked as a model, appearing in fashion shows for Amaya Arzuaga and Francis Montesinos. She promoted an underwear collection for Triumph and was featured in a catalogue for Cartier.
In 2003, Sara received the Spanish National Dance Award. In 2005, she continued touring her show Sueños around the world. On December 19, she premiered her show Sabores in Paris. Sueños was the last part of a series of three shows that started with Sensaciones.
She also participated in the film J: Beyond Flamenco, also by Carlos Saura, which was released in 2016.
