Early Life and Career Beginnings
Abraham Mateo was born on August 25, 1998, in San Fernando, Cádiz, Spain. He grew up in a family that loved music. His grandfather on his mother's side sang in a church choir. His grandfather on his father's side was a flamenco singer. His mother also sang Spanish music. Abraham's older brother, Tony, is also a singer and musician.
Abraham started singing when he was only three years old. He would copy performances from the TV show Operación Triunfo. His mother gave him his first singing lessons. When he was seven, he joined the Veo Veo children's music festival in Andalusia. Two years later, he won a national award for new talent. In 2008, he joined the TV show "Menuda Noche" on Canal Sur TV. He performed on this show for over four years. There, he sang famous Spanish songs. He also performed with Raphael and sang for artists like Juan Luis Guerra and David Bisbal.

In 2009, at age ten, he signed with EMI Music Spain. He released his first album, Abraham Mateo. This album had original songs and Spanish versions of songs by other artists. It also included a duet with French singer Caroline Costa. Around this time, he started uploading his own song covers to YouTube. In 2011, he released his original Latin dance song “Desde que te fuiste” online.

This album includes songs with Manuel Turizo and Becky G. It also has the song “Esta Cuarentena,” which he wrote during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main song of the album talks about online bullying Abraham faced when he was younger. That year, he released “Qué Será” with Leslie Grace. He worked with Omar Montes and Lérica on “Pegamos Tela,” which became a hit in Spain. He also took part in the charity song “Pa’ La Cultura,” led by David Guetta.
Return to Pop and Spanish Success (2022–Present)
After the COVID-19 pandemic, Abraham Mateo focused more on the Spanish music market. He wanted to become a strong adult pop artist there. During this time, his music style changed. It became more modern pop with electronic sounds. It also had influences from the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2022, he released Quiero decirte with Ana Mena. This song was certified four times platinum in Spain. In 2023, he had great success with Clavaíto. This song was a bachata-style collaboration with Chanel. The song reached six-times platinum status. It also won Best Collaboration at the LOS40 Music Awards.
In April 2024, Abraham Mateo released Insomnio. This studio album mixes Latin pop, electronic sounds, and urban rhythms. The album features songs with Sebastián Yatra (XQ Sigues Pensando :(), Danny Ocean (Bailarina), and Omar Montes (Falsos Recuerdos). It also includes the very popular song Maníaca. It was also nominated for Best Artist and Best Song. The Spanish Academy of Music nominated it for Best Pop Album.
To promote the album, Abraham performed in big cities in Spain and Latin America. He had sold-out shows in Mexico City and Buenos Aires. He performed at the Starlite Festival in Marbella.
