Manuel Turizo's Music Journey
Early Life and Starting Music
Manuel Turizo grew up in Montería, a town on the coast of Colombia. He started making music when he was thirteen. When Manuel was born in 2000, his parents gave a guitar and microphone to his older brother, Julian. This was so Julian, who was two, wouldn't feel left out.
Years later, Manuel tried to learn his brother's guitar. He felt he wasn't good at it, so he focused on singing. Manuel first wanted to be a veterinarian. But after singing lessons with a Cuban music teacher, he chose music. As a child, Manuel practiced singing his favorite songs. His brother Julian would play guitar or ukulele and sing harmonies. Later, Manuel wrote more songs while Julian was studying in Medellín.
Rise to Fame: "Una Lady Como Tú" and ADN
Manuel Turizo began his music career in 2016. He released his first two songs, "Baila Conmigo" and "Vámonos," by himself. Then came his big hit, "Una Lady Como Tú", released on March 16, 2017. This song made him very popular across Latin America. The music video for "Una Lady Como Tú" has been watched over 1.4 billion times on YouTube. Within a year, the song was streamed more than 235 million times on Spotify.
After this hit, he released "Bésame" in May 2017. For this song, he worked with Puerto Rican singer Valentino. Because of his success, Billboard magazine named Manuel Turizo one of the "10 Latin Artists To Watch in 2018."
In September 2018, Manuel Turizo had his first song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This was "Vaina Loca", a song he made with Ozuna. The song reached number 94 and stayed on the chart for two weeks. In October 2018, he worked with Mau y Ricky on the song "Desconocidos." In March 2019, his song "Sola" became his first number one song on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart.
Manuel Turizo released his first album, ADN, on August 23, 2019. This album featured many artists like Zion & Lennox, Ozuna, Nicky Jam, and Anuel AA. ADN reached number eight on the Billboard Hot Latin Albums chart. In September 2019, Deezer, a music streaming service, named him their first Latin "global priority artist." He also performed a virtual concert with Billboard on March 25, 2020. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic to raise money for a charity called MusiCares.
In 2025, Manuel Turizo was a coach on the tenth season of La Voz Kids Spain. He coached alongside David Bisbal, Edurne, and Lola Índigo. His artist, Lucas Paulano, won the season, making Manuel the winning coach.
Manuel Turizo's Music Style
