Belinda Peregrín Schüll (born August 15, 1989), known simply as Belinda, is a talented Spanish-Mexican singer and actress. She moved to Mexico City when she was very young. In 2000, at just 10 years old, she began her career as a child actor. Her first big role was in the Mexican children's TV show Amigos x siempre.
Belinda quickly became famous. She also starred in Aventuras en el tiempo (2001) and Cómplices Al Rescate (2002). Her first album, Belinda (2003), was a huge hit. It sold over 1.1 million copies worldwide. This album included popular songs like "Lo Siento" and "Vivir".
Her second album, Utopía (2006), was also very successful. It earned her two Latin Grammy Awards nominations. This album featured popular songs such as "Ni Freud ni tu mamá" and "Bella Traición". Belinda has also appeared in movies like The Cheetah Girls 2 (2006). She has lent her voice to animated films like The Tale of Despereaux (2008).
Belinda returned to Mexican TV shows with Camaleones (2009) and Mujeres asesinas 3 (2010). These roles inspired her third album, Carpe Diem (2010), which had the hit song "Egoísta". Her fourth album, Catarsis (2013), went straight to number one in Mexico. It included popular songs like "En El Amor Hay Que Perdonar" and "En La Obscuridad". Early Life and Family
Belinda was born in 1989 in Madrid, Spain. Her father, Ignacio Peregrín Gutiérrez, is Spanish. Her mother, Belinda Schüll Moreno, has French and Spanish family roots. Belinda's grandfather, Pierre Schüll, was a famous French bullfighter.
Belinda also has a younger brother named Ignacio. He was born in Mexico City in 1996. When Belinda was four years old, her family moved to Mexico City for good. This is where she grew up and started her journey in entertainment.
Belinda's Career Journey
Starting as a Child Star (2000–2002)
From a very young age, Belinda showed amazing talent. She loved to sing, act, and even make home videos. At just 10 years old, she got her first role in a TV show. It was a Mexican children's telenovela called ¡Amigos x Siempre!. She also sang on the show's soundtrack. Both the show and the album became very popular in Latin America.
In 2001, she starred in another telenovela, Aventuras en el Tiempo. This show was also a big hit in Mexico and other Latin American countries. Belinda sang on its soundtracks too. She became even more recognized for playing twin sisters in Cómplices Al Rescate. She went on tour with the cast, performing over 160 live shows. She recorded two soundtracks for this series. She even got her first Latin Grammy nomination for one of them.
First Album Success (2003–2005)
Belinda's first solo album, "Belinda," came out on August 5, 2003. It was released by Sony BMG and RCA Records. The album was a huge success across Mexico and Latin America. It sold over half a million copies worldwide.
Many talented producers worked on the "Belinda" album. These included Rudy Pérez and Mauri Stern. Six songs from the album were released as singles. "Lo Siento", "Boba Niña Nice", "Ángel", and "Vivir" all made it into the top ten charts. "Vivir" was even the main song for the TV show "Corazones al límite". Belinda made a short appearance in that show. The album was re-released several times, showing how popular it was.
In 2005, Belinda worked with the Mexican rock band Moderatto. They covered the song "Muriendo Lento" by Timbiriche. This song quickly became number one in Mexico. It was a big success for both artists.
Movies and Utopía (2006–2008)
In 2006, Belinda started working in North America. She made her movie debut in the Disney Channel Original Movie The Cheetah Girls 2. She played a character named Marisol. The movie was watched by over 8.1 million people when it first aired. This made it one of Disney Channel's most popular TV movies. Belinda also sang four songs on the movie's soundtrack. The soundtrack sold 1.4 million copies in the US.
Her second album, Utopía, was released in late 2006. It reached number three on the Mexican music charts. It sold over 1 million records around the world. The album included the hit song "Ni Freud Ni Tu Mamá" (2006). Belinda won two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America in 2007. She won "Video of the Year" for "Bella Traición" and "Best Solo Artist." She was also nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards for her work on Utopía.
Back to TV and Carpe Diem (2009–2010)

In 2009, Belinda starred in the TV show Camaleones. She also sang the main theme song for the show, "Sal de Mi Piel". In 2010, she appeared in an episode of Mujeres Asesinas. She also recorded the song "Contigo en la distancia" for the episode. Both the episode and the song were highly praised.
In early 2010, Belinda joined other Latin artists to sing on "Somos el Mundo" and "Ay Haiti". These songs were released to raise money for charity.
Belinda's third album, Carpe Diem, came out on March 23, 2010. Just two days later, it was certified gold in Mexico. This meant it had sold 40,000 copies. The first song from the album, Egoísta featuring Pitbull, was a big success. It showed a new dance-pop style for Belinda. The second song, "Dopamina", was released in 2011.
Catarsis and Tours (2011–2015)
Belinda spent 2011 and 2012 writing and recording for her new album. On June 5, 2012, "En El Amor Hay Que Perdonar" was announced as the first song. It quickly became number one on the Mexican Singles Chart.
Another song, "Te Voy A Esperar" (with Juan Magán), was for the movie Las aventuras de Tadeo Jones. It was released in Spain and stayed at number one for ten weeks. This song was added as a bonus track on Belinda's album in Latin America.
Her fourth album, Catarsis, was released on July 2, 2013. "En la Obscuridad" was the second song released from the album. Its music video broke a Latin music record on VEVO. It got over 3 million views in just two days.
Belinda started her Catarsis Tour in August 2013. This tour had a much bigger show than her previous ones. It lasted almost three years, ending in mid-2016. She visited many festivals across Latin America. The tour even had different "phases" with changes to the stage and costumes. Later, Belinda worked with the Mexican rock band Motel on their song "Sueño de Ti".
Movies, Fashion, and New Music (2016–Present)
In March 2016, it was announced that Belinda would be in the movie Baywatch. This film was based on the 90s TV show. It starred Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson. In June of the same year, Belinda was chosen to voice the character Poppy in the Spanish version of the film Trolls. She also voiced Poppy in the 2020 sequel, Trolls World Tour.
Besides movies, Belinda also entered the fashion world. She launched her own shoe line in collaboration with Capa de Ozono in 2016.
While working on her tour and movies, Belinda also started writing for her fifth album. She shared a preview of a song in May 2016. She promised her new album would sound like her earlier work. In 2017, she revealed that American DJ Steve Aoki was working on her album. A song called "Bailalo" was planned as the first single. The music video for "Bailalo" was leaked online in 2020.
On August 7, 2023, Belinda announced her return to music. She signed a new contract with Warner Music Group. On January 17, 2024, she teased her new song "Cactus". It was released on January 31 and is the first song from her upcoming fifth album, Indomable.
Other Projects and Businesses
Belinda has also started her own music company called Joy Music. This company helps promote concert tours and independent music.
Belinda and her younger brother opened a fancy karaoke bar in Mexico. It's called La Chismosa Canta Bar, which means "The Gossip sing and bar." The bar is designed to look like the glamorous 1920s. As of 2016, there are three La Chismosa Canta Bar locations in Mexico.
