The Start of Capitol Latin
Capitol Latin began in 1989. Back then, it was known as Capitol/EMI Latin. A person named José Behar started it. He used to work at another music company. José Behar signed a very talented singer named Selena. He believed she would become a huge star, just like Gloria Estefan.
In 1990, Capitol/EMI Latin bought a smaller music company called Cara Records. This helped them work with popular Tejano music artists. Some of these artists included Mazz, David Lee Garza, and La Mafia.
Around 1993, the company changed its name. It became simply EMI Latin.
Growing and Changing
EMI Latin worked with many popular artists. These included Thalía, Pedro Fernández, and RBD. They also signed reggaeton artists like DJ Flex and Tito El Bambino.
In 2009, EMI Latin changed again. It stopped working with Televisa, a TV network. The company moved from Miami to Los Angeles. At this time, its name changed to Capitol Latin.
In 2012, a big music company called Universal Music Group bought EMI. Because of this, Capitol Latin joined with Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Today, Capitol Latin is still a part of Universal Music Latin Entertainment. It continues to release music through Universal Music Group.
