About Álvaro Torres

Early Life and First Songs

Álvaro Torres was born in Usulután, El Salvador. He started writing songs at a young age. His first song, "Dulce amiga" (Sweet Friend), was written when he was just 12 years old. He was inspired by a friend who let him watch TV at her house.

Around that time, he met Pepe Rodas, a radio director. Rodas invited Álvaro to a studio to record a demo. A demo is like a sample recording of a song. This was a big step for his music career.

Moving and Making Music

Álvaro Torres later moved to Guatemala. There, he began his solo music career. His first album, Algo especial (Something Special), came out in 1976. The next year, he released another album called Acariciame (Caress Me).

In 1978, he was chosen to represent El Salvador in the OTI Festival. This was a big music competition held in Santiago, Chile. Even though he didn't win, it helped him become more known.

Success in the United States

Álvaro Torres later moved to the United States. He lived in different states like Colorado and California before settling in Florida.

His music career really took off in 1991. That year, he released a very successful album called Nada Se Compara Contigo. In 1994, he was named Songwriter of the Year by BMI. BMI is an organization that helps musicians.
