Álvaro Torres is a famous singer and songwriter from El Salvador. He was born on April 9, 1954. He is well-known for his romantic Latin pop songs. He has written many popular songs and sung duets with other famous artists.
His Life and Music
Álvaro Torres was born in Usulután, El Salvador. He started writing songs at a young age. His very first song, "Dulce amiga" (Sweet Friend), was written when he was just 12 years old. This song was inspired by a childhood friend.
A radio director named Pepe Rodas helped him record a demo. This was a big step for his music career. Álvaro then moved to Guatemala. There, he released his first album, Algo especial (Something Special), in 1976.
In 1978, he represented his country, El Salvador, in the OTI Festival. This was a big music competition held in Santiago, Chile. Even though he didn't win, it helped him become more known.
Álvaro Torres became very popular in the 1980s. Later, he moved to the United States. He lived in different states like Colorado, California, and Florida.
His career really took off in 1991. That year, he released a very successful album called Nada Se Compara Contigo (Nothing Compares to You). In 1994, he was even named "Songwriter of the Year" by a group called BMI.
Álvaro Torres has many famous songs. Some of them include "Hazme olvidarla" (Make Me Forget Her) and "Nada se compara contigo". He has also sung with other great artists. He sang "Mi amor por ti" (My Love for You) with Marisela. He also sang "Buenos amigos" (Good Friends) with Selena. In 1997, he recorded "Estaremos Juntos" (We Will Be Together) with Millie Corretjer.
