Obie Bermúdez (born January 10, 1981) is a talented Puerto Rican singer and songwriter. He is known for his Latin pop and salsa songs.
Obie was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in New Jersey. His music mixes sounds from both places, like salsa, pop, and rock. Many of his songs have won awards.
You might have heard his music on TV shows like Telemundo’s “Asi Se Baila.” It has also been in Spanish-language movies such as “Al Revés” and “El Cantante.”
Besides his own music, Obie has worked with many other famous musicians. He also cares a lot about helping others. He uses his fame to support charities, especially for Autism Awareness and disability rights.
Early Life
Obie Bermúdez was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. He came from a family who loved music very much. Both his father and grandfather were musicians.
He went to school in Aibonito. In 1992, his family moved to Vineland, New Jersey. He finished high school there in 1995. Obie speaks both English and Spanish very well.
Obie learned to love and respect music from his family. This love helped him follow his dream, even when things were tough. In 1996, he made his first music recording, called a "demo."
Music Career
In 1998, Obie Bermúdez released his first CD. It was called Locales (which means Locals). This was his first album as a professional singer. BMG Records released Locales.
In 2000, Obie moved to New York City. He worked in a laundromat for a while to earn money. While working there, he met many different kinds of people. These experiences later helped him write his songs.
In 2003, he got to go on tour with famous singers. He toured with Juanes, Paulina Rubio, and Juan Luis Guerra in the United States. In 2004, Obie released his second CD, Confesiones. Three songs from this album became Top 10 hits on Billboard's Hot Latin Charts.
His album Todo el Año won a Latin Grammy award. It was named Best Male Pop Vocal Album. He also released another song called Como Pudiste (How could you?).
Later Career
Obie Bermúdez released his fourth album on August 29, 2006. It was called "Lo Que Trajo El Barco" (What The Ship Has Brought In). This album followed his successful Todo El Año.
In 2009, Obie worked on a special music project. He joined Danny Rivera, Ray de la Paz, and Claudette Sierra. They recorded songs from "The Capeman," a play by Paul Simon. Oscar Hernández and his Spanish Harlem Orchestra led the project.
