Tiziano Ferro's Life Story

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Tiziano Ferro's love for music started when he received a toy keyboard as a gift. He was seven years old and used it to write his first songs. Later, he began taking guitar and piano lessons at a local music school. When he was 16, he joined a gospel choir. Around the same time, he started performing in piano bars and karaoke contests.

In 1997, Tiziano tried out for "Accademia della Canzone di Sanremo." This was a music contest to choose performers for the Sanremo Music Festival. He was eliminated early in the competition. The next year, he tried again and was one of the 12 finalists. Even though he didn't win, he met music producers Alberto Salerno and Mara Maionchi during the selections. He then started working with them. In 1999, Ferro also toured Italy as a backup singer for the Italian hip hop band Sottotono.

Becoming a Star: First Album Success

In 2001, Tiziano Ferro signed a contract with EMI Music Italy. On 22 June 2001, he released his first song, "Xdono". At first, the song wasn't very popular. But it later became a huge hit! It reached the top of the Italian Singles Chart in September 2001. It sold over 100,000 copies, earning a double platinum award.

The song was part of Ferro's first album, Rosso Relativo, released on 26 October 2001. Because it was so successful in Italy, the album was released in many other European countries in 2002. A Spanish version, called Rojo Relativo, was also released in Spain and Latin America. Rosso Relativo was a hit in many places. By 2004, it had sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide. This album also helped Ferro get nominated for "Best New Artist" at the Latin Grammy Awards of 2003.

Second Album: 111

In November 2003, Tiziano Ferro released his second album, 111. He recorded it in both Italian and Spanish. Alberto Salerno, Mara Maionchi, and Michele Canova produced the album. Before the album, the song ""Xverso" / "Perverso"" was released. Other popular songs from the album included ""Sere nere" / "Tardes negras"", ""Non me lo so spiegare" / "No me lo puedo explicar"", and "Ti voglio bene" / "Desde mañana no lo sé".

111 sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide. It was number one on the Mexican Albums Chart. In Italy, it sold over 450,000 copies, earning a four-times platinum award. After this success, Ferro won "Best Italian Artist" at the 2004 MTV Europe Music Awards in Rome. In July 2004, Ferro also released his first English song, "Universal Prayer". This was a duet with British R&B singer Jamelia. They recorded it to promote the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

During these years, Ferro lived in Mexico, first in Cuernavaca and then in Puebla. He studied Spanish at a university there and graduated in August 2005. After that, he moved to Manchester.

Tiziano Ferro's third album, Nessuno è solo (meaning "No One Is Alone"), came out in June 2006. The first song released from it was "Stop! Dimentica", which became a number-one hit in Italy and Austria. Music critics said the album was more personal and thoughtful. It was even more successful in Italy than his previous albums, earning a diamond award for its sales.

The third song from the album, "Ti scatterò una foto", was used in the movie Ho voglia di te. This movie was based on a book by Federico Moccia. Nessuno è solo also has a song with Italian pop singer Biagio Antonacci. The Spanish version of the album includes "Mi credo," a song recorded with Pepe Aguilar.

Fourth Album: Alla mia età

In June 2008, Tiziano Ferro helped write the song "Non ti scordar mai di me" for Giusy Ferreri. She was a runner-up on X Factor Italy. The song became a huge hit in Italy, staying at number one for 12 weeks. Ferro also produced Giusy Ferreri's first album, Gaetana. This album had 6 songs written by him, including "L'amore e basta!", a duet with Ferreri.

On 7 November 2008, Ferro released his fourth album, Alla mia età (meaning "At My Age"). The album's title song was released first. Alla mia età started at number one on the Italian Albums Chart. It became the best-selling album of 2009 in Italy and earned Ferro's second diamond award. The album includes a duet with singer-songwriter Franco Battiato. The English version of the song "Indietro," called "Breathe Gentle", features Kelly Rowland. Other artists who worked on the album include Italian singer Laura Pausini, Anahí and Dulce María from the Mexican pop group RBD, and Amaia Montero.

In November 2009, Ferro released his first video album, Alla mia età – Live in Rome. It was recorded during his concerts at the Stadio Olimpico on 24 and 25 June 2009. A few months later, Ferro was chosen to write and record the Italian version of Mary J. Blige's song "Each Tear". This song was on her album Stronger with Each Tear and reached the top spot on the Italian Singles Chart.

Fifth Album: L'amore è una cosa semplice

In October 2011, Tiziano Ferro released "La differenza tra me e te". This was the first song from his fifth album, L'amore è una cosa semplice (meaning "Love Is a Simple Thing"). The album was released on 28 November 2011. It stayed at the top of the Italian Albums Chart for five weeks. All seven songs released from the album sold very well in Italy. The album itself earned an eight-times platinum award and was the best-selling album of 2012.

In the spring and summer of 2012, Ferro went on a concert tour mostly in Italy. He also had stops in Switzerland, Belgium, and Monaco. A big moment of the tour was Ferro's first full stadium concert at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. This concert was completely sold out, with 50,000 fans attending.

In 2012, Ferro wrote the song "Per Te," sung by Andrea Bocelli. It was on the album of the famous jazz player Chris Botti. This album helped Ferro earn a Grammy Award for "Best Pop Instrumental Album."

In 2013, Ferro decided to work with other artists. Italian hip hop artist Baby K released her first album, Una seria, in March. Ferro produced it with Michele Canova. Ferro was featured on the first song, "Killer", which reached number 10 on the Italian Singles Chart. He also sang on the album's third song, "Sei sola". In September, Alessandra Amoroso released Amore puro, another album produced by Ferro and Canova. This album earned a double platinum award. Four of its five songs were written by Ferro.

First Greatest Hits Album: TZN – The Best of Tiziano Ferro

Tiziano Ferro released his first greatest hits album, TZN – The Best of Tiziano Ferro, in November 2014. It eventually earned a seven-times platinum award and stayed in the top ten on the Italian album chart for almost a year. In Spain, it was Ferro's first album to reach the top ten in over ten years.

The Milan concerts were recorded and added to a new CD/DVD version of TZN – The Best of Tiziano Ferro, released in November 2015. That same month, Ferro started a European arena tour to keep promoting his greatest hits collection.

Tiziano Ferro announced the release date of his sixth album a year in advance, at the last concert of his European tour. He told the crowd it would be released on 2 December 2016. In June, the album's title was revealed to be Il mestiere della vita (meaning "The Job of Life"). The album's first song, "Potremmo ritornare", was released in October. First Novel: La felicità al principio

Tiziano Ferro's first novel, La felicità al principio (Happiness at the Beginning), was published in Italy on 3 October 2023. It tells the story of Angelo Galassi, a former Italian pop star living quietly in New York. He has to deal with his personal issues and get his life back on track for his newly discovered young daughter. In September 2023, Ferro canceled his Italian tour to promote the novel. He explained that his divorce prevented him from leaving his home in Los Angeles with his children.

Personal Life

In 2006, Ferro appeared on an Italian TV show and made a joke about Mexican women. This caused some upset among his Mexican fans and affected his album sales there.

Ferro was diagnosed with depression in 2008 and began taking medication. In late 2009, he went through a very difficult time. In early 2010, he shared his feelings with his father. This experience inspired the title of his first book, Trent'anni e una chiacchierata con papà (Thirty years old and a chat with dad). This book, published in October 2010, is based on his personal diaries. Its release was followed by an interview where he spoke openly about his personal journey. The next year, Ferro moved back to Italy to be closer to his friends and family. Ferro released a second book about his life, L'amore è una cosa semplice (Love is a simple thing), in February 2013.

In 2019, Ferro announced his marriage to Victor Allen. They were married in Sabaudia, Italy. On 28 February 2022, Ferro announced that he and Allen had become fathers to two children, a girl and a boy. Later that year, Ferro shared that he would not apply for Italian passports for his children, who are also American citizens. This was because Italian law did not recognize Allen as a parent, which meant the children would not have two parents responsible for their well-being under Italian law. On 19 September 2023, Ferro announced his separation from Allen. Their divorce was finalized in March 2024.

Ferro has spoken about the challenges faced by some families in Italy, especially regarding parenthood.
