Mara Maionchi started her career in the music world in 1967. She worked as a secretary in the press office for Ariston Records. There, she helped famous singers like Ornella Vanoni and Mino Reitano.

In 1969, Mara joined Numero Uno, a record label started by Mogol and Lucio Battisti. Later, in the 1970s, she moved to Dischi Ricordi. At Dischi Ricordi, she became a "talent discoverer."
