Early Life and Musical Start
Mino Reitano was born in Fiumara, a small village in Calabria, Italy. His father loved music very much. He encouraged all his sons to learn to play musical instruments.
Mino started by playing in a local brass band. Later, he moved to Reggio Calabria. There, he studied music for eight years at the Francesco Cilea Conservatory. He learned to play the piano, trumpet, and violin.
Playing with The Beatles
In the late 1950s, Mino and his brothers moved to Hamburg, Germany. They formed a rock'n'roll band called Benjamin & His Brothers. They often performed at a famous club called the Star-Club.
At the Star-Club, they even shared the stage with other rising stars. These included Rory Storm, Tony Sheridan, and even The Beatles!
Music Career and Hits
After a few years, Mino Reitano returned to Italy. He recorded his first song, Twist Time. He then had a successful performance at the Castrocaro Music Festival. This led to a contract with a big Italian music company, Dischi Ricordi.
In 1967, he took part in the famous Sanremo Festival for the first time. His first big hit song was Avevo un cuore (che ti amava tanto), which came out in 1968. He released many albums throughout his career.
Acting Roles
Besides singing, Mino Reitano was also an actor. He appeared in several films. Some of these movies include Povero Cristo, I'm Crazy About Iris Blond, and Long Lasting Days.
Later Life
Mino Reitano passed away in Agrate Brianza, Italy, at the age of 64. He had been ill for a long time.
