Gianna Nannini (born June 14, 1954) is a famous Italian singer and songwriter. She is known for her powerful voice and rock-pop style. Some of her most popular songs include "America" (1979), "Fotoromanza" (1984), and "Bello e impossibile" (1986). "Bello e impossibile" became a big hit across Europe. It was especially popular in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Gianna Nannini was born in Siena, Italy, on June 14, 1954. She has a younger brother named Alessandro Nannini. He used to be a Formula One racing driver. Gianna started studying piano and music composition in Milan in the late 1970s. This helped her prepare for her music career.
Music Career Highlights
Gianna Nannini had her first big hit in Italy in 1979. It was with the song "America" and her album California. This album also became popular in other European countries.
Her international breakthrough came in 1984 with her sixth album, Puzzle. This album reached the top 10 in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The first song from the album, "Fotoromanza", had a music video directed by the famous filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni. The song won many music awards. After the album's success, Nannini went on a long tour across Europe. She even performed at the famous Montreux Jazz Festival.
In 1986, her song "Bello e impossibile" became a huge European hit. Her 1987 collection album, Maschi e altri, sold over a million copies.

A movie about Gianna Nannini's life, called Beautiful Rebel (Sei nell’anima), was released in 2024 on Netflix. The movie shows her journey to becoming a singer. It also highlights how she stood up against her family, music companies, and old traditions in Italy.
Gianna Nannini earned a degree in philosophy from the University of Siena in 1994. She was in her late 30s at the time. In 1995, she joined a protest organized by Greenpeace. This protest was held at the French embassy in Rome. They were protesting against the French government's decision to do nuclear tests.
